CrimeVision is designed to work with Windows-native AVI files. Most DVRs record in alternate file formats.

First, try opening the file in VirtualDub and converting it to an AVI file. If VirtualDub cannot recognize the file, it is likely a proprietary format that only applications from the DVR manufacturer will recognize. If that is the case, either contact the manufacturer for assistance, or capture the video from the TV output of the DVR.
